CSAV foundation’s global trade day: challenges and opportunities in a world on the move
Santiago, October 11, 2024. The CSAV Foundation organized the third version of Global Trade Day with the theme “Navigating Uncertainty,” to address the challenges and opportunities companies face in a volatile environment with rapidly changing technology.
Leading experts attended the event. Kathleen Barclay, director of AmCham, shared her views on global uncertainty factors. She proposed four keys to navigating the current context: embrace change, encourage horizontality, seek agility and constant innovation, and focus on knowledge and collaboration.
Next, Kuehne + Nagel International CEO Stefan Paul spoke about the future of the logistics industry. “Everything we’ve learned over the last few decades, everything we’ve learned from data, from patterns, no longer works. Because every week, every month, every quarter there is a different situation. It is important for leaders to understand that the world is extremely volatile,” he stressed, referring to supply chain disruptions. He also highlighted Asia as a source of growth and valued Chile’s stability, calling for maintaining competitiveness and boosting innovation.
In addition, economist and innovation expert Andrew McAfee presented his “Geek Way” concept as a strategy for organizations to thrive in the digital era. This concept has several axes: experiment and learn constantly; make decisions based on data, not opinions; automate repetitive tasks and delegate; collaborate and share knowledge; and always innovate. “Technology is very powerful, it does things that look human, but it’s still imperfect. Qualified people are still needed and those people will be even more valuable,” he said.
The foundation’s president and CEO of CSAV, Óscar Hasbún, said that the activity sought to “enrich dialogue, analyze the current situation and explore how innovation and technology can drive the growth of companies that strongly support the development of Chile and global trade.”
